Seasonal Camp Facilitator

Job Summary- Camp Facilitator
The Camp Facilitator is responsible for implementing kids camps, primarily on-site at the Museum. The majority of programming will be focused on elementary-aged children utilizing dynamic, hands-on activities. The Camp Facilitator will teach about the cultural and natural history of the High Desert, as well as STEAM, (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). Well-qualified candidates must be energetic, flexible, resourceful, and customer service focused with an positive attitude to present exciting programs for an out-of-school elementary audience.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
·      Some college or educational coursework around youth development or education preferred.
·      Experience working with children in a formal or informal setting.
·      Knowledge of STEAM.
·      Demonstrated knowledge of classroom management of young children.
·      Willingness to learn on the job.
·      Ability to communicate and work effectively with Museum staff, children, and guardians/parents in a professional, pleasant, tactful, and enthusiastic manner.
·      Excellent communication skills.
·      Ability to work well with a diverse group of people in a service-oriented manner.
·      Ability to teach a variety of subjects and grade levels effectively and energetically.
·      Ability to work flexible hours and days.
·      Proof of COVID vaccination.
 
The successful applicant will be an outgoing, friendly, team player and must be detailed-oriented. They must have a high degree of energy and enthusiasm for a visitor-service oriented organization. The position may require some evenings and weekends, working inside and outside, and handling live animals. Camps may be facilitated in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.
 
Candidate must be able to lift 25 lbs.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
1.   Review and adapt camp lesson and program plans for specific camp audiences.
2.   Organize and maintain camp related supplies and materials, particularly for multiple day camps.
3.   Prepare and setup materials and supplies based on provided camp lesson and program plans.
4.   Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities which may include crafts, natural settings, songs, and games.
5.   Create a welcoming environment for campers to learn, experiment, and engage safely and meaningfully with one another as well as with provided educational content.
6.   Manage drop off and pick up procedures established by Education & Engagement Team.
7.   Provide before and after care for campers with non-facilitated activities and oversight.
8.   Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
9.   Facilitate camp lessons and programs in various Museum spaces including classrooms, exhibitions, wildlife areas, and outdoor settings.
10. Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp programs as well as willingness to implement procedures as needed.
11. Comply with all Museum policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
12. Be a mentor for teen volunteers who may support camps.
13. Successfully satisfy animal handling training requirements and maintain animal handling protocols.
14. Work with Education and Engagement Team to communicate and collaborate with other Museum departments and teams to provide outlined programming.
15. Always maintain professional conduct with Museum staff and the public.
