Planting and Harvesting Automation Engineer

By developing a thorough understanding of Pacific Seafood, an internship position will provide you with insight into the seafood industry and develop leadership, presentation, communication, and project management skills.

As a Planting and Harvesting Automation Engineer Intern, you will be responsible for helping our team design and build a longline planting attachment to plant longlines directly from a scow ship. You will be expected to draft potential designs in Solidworks and test its operating. Upon approval, you will prepare drawings for the fabrication shop. Over the course of the internship program, you will learn shellfish farming techniques and vessel management, as well as gain hands-on experience with Solidworks, electric/hydraulic systems, and welding/fabrication.

Start Date: May 27th to August 16th or June 24th to September 13th  

Pay Rate: Competitive salary based on education and experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to the primary project listed above, duties include but not limited to:
  • Be a role model in projecting and applying The Pacific Seafood Group Diamond Philosophy (Productivity, Quality, Teamwork and Excellence) at all times
  • Work with farming crews in order to understand planting and harvesting environment
  • Draft potential designs in Solidworks
  • Prepare drawings for fabrication shop
  • Partner with team members to implement project and record results
  • Prepare project overview and presentation for executive leadership

Qualifications 
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to successfully perform the job.

A. Education and Experience
Required:
  • Pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree with a targeted graduation of May 2019 to June 2020
  • Pursuit of an Engineering degree
  • Must have experience simplifying complex information and presenting to diverse audiences
Preferred: 
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Experience with drawing programs like Solidworks
  • Valid driver’s license
 
B. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Desired
  • Experience with mechanical and farm equipment
  • Experience with fabrication and welding
  • Experience with electronic controls and hydraulics
  • Ability to cross-functionally network, influence, and utilize internal and external resources
  • Inquisitive, creative, and process orientated mindset
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to travel as needed
Working Conditions
  • Work in cold, wet, and/or humid conditions
  • Possible work in sub-freezing conditions
