Mechanical Engineering Associate

The Eugene Water & Electric Board is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Associate to provide mechanical engineering support for the Generation Department. EWEB's Generation Engineering group supports the utility's hydroelectric and steam turbine power plants and their ancillary systems (dams, fish screens, penstocks, pumping systems, etc). The successful candidate will perform planning, design, modification, and upgrade projects for these power generation facilities, provide support of operations and maintenance activities, and complete equipment condition assessment and asset management analysis. Assignments will also include the coordination and oversight of similar work that is performed by consulting engineers, contractors, and EWEB technicians. The work requires close collaboration with operations staff during the design process and in troubleshooting incidents.

The Mechanical Engineering Associate position fulfills an important role in maintaining and improving the reliability of EWEB's power generation systems. The position provides the opportunity to work on a multi-disciplinary team to complete a wide variety of technical and project management assignments. Responsibilities include conducting inspections of existing assets, planning and analysis to select preferred alternatives for improvement, budgeting for implementation, preparing design drawings and specifications under the oversight of senior staff, procuring material and service contracts, providing field oversight of upgrade activities, developing standard operating/maintenance procedures, and completing work within budget and schedule constraints.


Hiring Ranges:
Mechanical Engineering Associate I: $60,544.78 - $75,680.92
Mechanical Engineering Associate II: $70,144.19 - $87,680.35
Mechanical Engineering Associate III: $81,259.66 - $101,574.48

Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm

Why this job:
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience or an appropriate background for developing skill in project management, planning, analysis, design, implementation, commissioning, and support for the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems. The candidate is to be knowledgeable in the operation, installation and testing of mechanical equipment such as gates, valves, pumps, and turbines.
                                                                                                                                                            
This individual will represent the utility with external organizations and at conferences and will participate in trainings as necessary to stay knowledgeable about important mechanical engineering issues.
 
This person's background will allow them to perform assigned tasks under the supervision of senior engineering staff. They will have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and the ability to interpret equipment design drawings, process schematics, and equipment specifications. They will provide engineering support to technicians in a collaborative team environment, maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, departments, consultants, and contractors.

Requirements As A Qualification & Progression

Mechanical Engineering Associate I:
Minimum Experience: Entry level - no experience required.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Mechanical Engineering Associate II:
Minimum Experience: Requires three (3) years of experience. A working knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of engineering, project management and construction is required, including methods, materials, equipment, techniques, technical software, schedules, specifications and contract documents. Competent to perform engineering design and analysis in an engineering specialty within a discipline. Performance at this level requires developmental experience gained at the Engineer I level.
 
Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or the equivalent combination of education.


Mechanical Engineering Associate III:
Minimum Experience: 7 years relevant experience.
 
Education: Requires a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
