Field Engineer / Systems Engineer

Naval Surface Warfare Center is the U.S. Navy’s state-of-the-art research, engineering, modeling and test center for ships and ship systems. We have over 3,200 scientists, engineers, and support personnel working in more than 40 disciplines ranging from fundamental science to applied engineering.

JOB DESCRIPTION
In this hands-on position, you may perform, lead, or supervise various technical duties concerned with the application of the fundamentals and principles of professional engineering, systems engineering, electro-mechanical hardware engineering, ocean engineering, acoustical signal processing , electromagnetic signal processing, and precision positioning system operation. This field is primarily concerned with complex deployment of sea-based systems and their corresponding interfaces to land-based data/power systems. Your duties may include electro-mechanical hardware development and maintenance; originating, evaluating and implementing designs for system architectures; and field based troubleshooting. Work on challenging assignments, in incredible locales, directly impacting the success of our Naval Fleet.

OFFICE DESCRIPTION
When not travelling, this position is located at the Detachment Puget Sound of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD) in Silverdale, Washington. Join our small dedicated team in designing, developing, and maintaining cutting edge signal acquisition, signal processing, precision positioning systems, and signal analysis systems that are instrumental in maintaining our Navy’s combat readiness.

TECHNICAL SKILLS
A suitable candidate will have a broad skillset in electrical/electronic systems, mechanical systems, and in-field maritime engineering/operations as well as a keen interest in continually learning new and unfamiliar technologies. Ideal skills include but are not limited to: maritime operations, motor-generator operation, hydraulic systems, analog/digital conversion, fiberoptics, radio transmissions, HDL, C#/C++, SQL, Java, Linux, Windows, MATLAB, and LabView. Self-motivation, good communication and inter-personal skills, and a can-do attitude are key candidate characteristics.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and/or Mechanical Engineering required. This position will require a security clearance or the ability to obtain one. In addition to a background investigation, a security clearance is only granted to U.S. Citizens.

TRAVEL
Approximately 1 week per month to various domestic locations such as Alaska, California, Florida, and Washington D.C. as well as occasional (2-3 per year) 3-week trips to various foreign locations such as Japan, Greece, and Bahrain.
