Technical Writer Internship/Co-Op (Summer 2019)

The Role 
This person will work with Tesla’s engineering teams to create and refine diagnostic procedures and documentation for use by non-engineers. They’ll improve editorial and visual standards for documentation and recommend new designs, layouts and formatting as needed. 

Responsibilities 
  • Create and update diagnostic information and procedures contained in the diagnostics database. 
  • Follow up with various engineering and quality teams to gather technical information. 
  • Understand problems and communicate them effectively. 
  • Validate information for accuracy, and use a routing and review process for document approval. 
  • Analyze available data to create and maintain concise, effective relationships between content. 
Requirements 
  • Working towards Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, Engineering, or Computer Science. 
  • Must be able to edit and create documentation that is accurate, complete, clear, specific, and as concise as possible. 
  • Excellent application of best practices in writing and documentation; accurate spelling and grammar are a must. 
  • Experience with various communications media and advanced formatting and presentation skills. 
  • Experience in automotive repair or automotive engineering (design or testing) preferred but not required. 
  • Must be able to extract and comprehend system operation from typical engineering documentation from both a software and mechanical perspective. (schematics and subsystem specification docs) 
  • High level of interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment. 
  • Pro-active team player who thinks ahead, plans, and suggests solutions. 
  • Good problem-solving skills. 
  • Positive attitude toward changes and inevitable mid-project course corrections. 
  • Strong capacity for both logical and creative thinking. 
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and evaluate priorities. 
  • Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • This role is available across various Tesla locations, including headquarters in Palo Alto, CA, the factory in Fremont, CA, and Gigafactory 1 in Sparks, NV – must be able to relocate for the duration of your internship.
