Mechanical Engineer I

The Mechanical Engineer I will design optical-mechanical parts and assemblies for new products from initial conceptualization through introduction to production. Package optical components and circuit boards are into a product using injection molded plastic, die cast and sheet metal components.  Analyzes mechanical systems, equipment and packaging. Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs.  Reports to the lead engineer in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Creates drawings to communicate design information to suppliers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Functional understanding of Datalogic and competitive products
  • Generate creative design concepts for new products
  • Feasibility evaluation and testing of new concepts
  • Design and implement parts and subassemblies for new products;
  • Introduce and support new part and assembly designs into manufacturing
  • Create, organize and maintain engineering records
  • Problem analysis, qualification and solution implementation
  • Proficient in all tools in mechanical engineering discipline
  • Plans, schedules, and executes simple projects, assessed weekly
  • Plans and leads multi-person single-discipline tasks; coordinates with other discipline leaders;
  • Works with design team and vendors to achieve project goals


Specialized Knowledge and Skills
  • Familiar with the design process.
  • Familiar with the principles of injection molded plastic, die cast, die cut and sheet metal parts;
  • Excellent time management, communications, decision making, presentation, human relations and organization skills

Educations and Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
