Research Engineer - Machine Learning

Ford Motor Company is moving into a new phase of its 100+ year history, one in which openness is at the heart of its future. The automobile is being redefined as a networked computing platform upon which an ever-evolving set of applications is being designed, allowing us to create exciting new consumer experiences.
We are a research lab within Ford that is investigating advanced machine learning technologies for a wide range of applications, e.g., Digital Assistant voice interface, advanced manufacturing control using DNN, synthetic data generation using GAN’s and VAE’s, etc. The candidate will be involved with developing novel and adaptable Deep Neural Network models and their implementations.
The ideal candidates are intellectually curious & innovative thinkers in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning disciplines who enjoy developing DNN based applications to improve performance and enhance user experiences. Strong preference will be given to highly motivated candidates with strong interdisciplinary backgrounds in science & engineering with solid programming skills. We collaborate extensively within Ford and with external partners, thus we require exceptional communication and collaborative skills.
This position is located at Ford Greenfield Labs in Palo Alto, CA http://research.ford.com/.


Position Duties: 
 
  • Perform research in DNN architectures and algorithms.
  • Support the coding and deployment of DNN based models to various platforms.
  • Present results for internal management and at external venues such as conferences.
  • Publish technical reports, papers and/or pursue Intellectual Property rights.
  • Work closely and effectively with external partners – corporations, universities and automotive suppliers.
 
Basic Qualifications:
• MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
• 1+ year of Machine Learning experience.
• 1+ year experience using one of the following frameworks; Tensor Flow and/or PyTorch and/or CAFFE.


Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
• Coded software/algorithms using C, C++, Java, Python, The MathWorks tool chain.
• Show projects that were successfully led and demonstrate innovative research.
• Published articles in scientific journals and presented work in conferences.
• Prior work experience in machine learning (DNN) algorithms, techniques, systems and their deployment.
• Experience in Robotics, Reinforcement Learning, Signal/Speech Processing and Numerical Optimization
