Emerging Leaders Internship Program (ELI)

The Emerging Leaders Internship (ELI) program matches students of color with paid internships at top companies throughout the Greater Portland area. This includes all current undergrad, graduate and Ph.D. students as well as recent graduates (within one year) who call Oregon home.

ELI brings you the following:

Training + Preparation
ELI provides professional interview training. All students who advance to Phase II will be invited to participate in a mock interview event designed to build your skills, help you gain experience, and grow your network. You will be interviewed by professionals representing various industries. You will be able to practice your interview skills and receive feedback on the spot.

Support + Professional Guidance
Your ELI internship includes periodic mentoring with a senior leader and mid-management as well as professional development workshops during the summer led by top companies and gatherings with your fellow ELI interns. In addition, ELI staff is available to answer questions and provide support and encouragement.

Community + Network
ELI is a connection point for young, diverse leaders. Connect with peers in the ELI family who will be there to support and inspire you through the summer and beyond. ELI gives you the opportunity to interact with professionals, make connections, and establish mentors as you shape your professional career path.

Get Experience + Get Paid
Your work, your skills, your time, your creativity–all are valuable. That’s why ELI internships are paid. Work full-time on meaningful projects that will help both you and your host company grow.

*International Students: We accept international students but due to the current limitations on work visas related to length of eligibility to work in the US, and the desire of many of our partner companies to potentially hire an intern after graduation, we are currently only able to consider international students in careers that are eligible for a 3-year Optional Practical Training (OPT). Generally, ,students studying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are eligible for this extension. International students are encouraged to research Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and OPT requirements now to be ready for internship opportunities with ELI and elsewhere.
