Production Manager


Description

Positions available within the Mechanical Department:

  • Production Manager - Locomotive Repair
  • Production Manager - Freight Car Repair
As a manager in the OMT program, you will:
  • Gain experience and competence in railroad operations
  • Develop first-line management skills to lead a diverse group of skilled craftsmen
  • Receive extensive on-the-job and classroom training

Upon completion of the training program, you will be assigned to a work location where you will lead the inspection, maintenance and repair activities on freight cars and/or locomotives.

This is an exceptional first-line management opportunity with significant growth potential. Union Pacific operates a dynamic 24/7/365 operation focused on safety and customer service. This opportunity will likely involve shift work in a shop facility type of environment.

Union Pacific's Operations Management Training program offers 4 classes each year - January, April, July and September.

Salary Information:

  • Starting salary: $71.250 - $74,250*
  • At 6 months: $3,500 increase**
  • At 12 months: $2,000 increase**
  • At assignment: $80,700 - $85,500*
*Based on skills, experience and geographical location. Assignment made upon completion of the training program.**Salary increase may vary based on performance, training, and assignment schedule.

Accountabilities

  • Lead a diverse crew of up to 80 craftsmen to ensure production schedules are met
  • Improve facility performance and exceed customer expectations by applying LEAN tools to production processes
  • Lead problem solving and process standardization
  • Work with craftsmen to improve technical standards
  • Lead, improve and sustain world class safety processes at the workplace
  • Lead environmental stewardship at the railroad facilities

Qualifications

Required

  • A Bachelor of Science degree or Bachelor of Arts degree, or will you have one by December 2018
  • Drivers license required for this position.
Preferred
  • A Bachelor of Science - Mechanical Engineering degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Engineering Management, Industrial Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain Management
  • 1 year(s) experience in lean manufacturing or Reliability Centered Maintenance
  • 1 year(s) experience managing people or experience in a leadership role
  • Prior work experience in an operations or safety sensitive position such as industrial operations, heavy machinery, transportation or manufacturing
  • Advanced communication skills both oral and written
  • Proficient Microsoft Suite skills and basic computer operation
