Analytics Summer Intern-Network Planning and Operations

Union Pacific Railroad, the nation's leading freight transportation company, is offering a summer internship opportunity in the Network Planning & Operations group for a student at either the undergraduate or graduate level.

The Network Planning & Operations team handles the planning and analysis of resources required to operate the railroad. It plays a key roll in the company's business planning process, working with the Marketing, Operating & Finance functions to adjust workforce and locomotives, and to determine infrastructure investments, based on market forecasts. The team also designs transportation plans, analyzes operating performance, designs and maintains key performance metrics, and works in partnership with the Operating team to improve performance.

The intern will be expected to make a meaningful contribution, while learning about the railroad business and Union Pacific's operations.

Accountabilities

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills are required, along with one of the following degree concentrations: Transportation, Engineering, Information Technology, Quantitative analysis / statistics, Finance, or closely related field.

Qualifications

Required

  • College credits equivalent to two years towards an undergraduate degree and currently enrolled, at the graduate or undergraduate level, seeking a degree in Transportation, Engineering, Information Technology, Quantitative analysis / statistics, Finance, or a closely related field.
Preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in accounting, supply chain and financial analytical methods and techniques
  • Strong communication skills
