Everything about this internship was great. My manager gave me experience in just about every aspect of business as possible.

What I wish was different

Wish COVID didn't end the experience early.

Advice

Relax and be yourself at work, you can still be professional and efficient while doing this. Fit is huge in firms, people want a person to work for them, not a robot. Managers will notice you if you are comfortable and genuine, and your work will prove your value to the company.

What I liked

Very inclusive and great working environment. The company gave me the experience of working in a large corporation that makes millions of dollars each day. It wasn't honestly surreal.

What I wish was different

Nothing much really. Maybe the internal systems could be a bit more organized but honestly, the new systems we implement are fixing most of those issues.

Advice

Don't be afraid to mess up. This isn't college anymore. Your managers will help you in understanding the work culture and tasks that are required to help you succeed in the office environment.

What I liked

They have many intern events that allow you to network and build connections with other interns. The projects assigned to you truly do assist the company in completing projects. There are many opportunities to spread out, to try different areas of of the business, for example marketing, sales, and different areas of the supply chain.

What I wish was different

I wish there was a little bit more planning beforehand of what the managers wanted the interns to do for the summer.

Advice

You can get out of it what you put into it. As I said there are tons of opportunities if you choose to seek them out. Some interns start in one area of the business, then switch to being an intern for something completely different.

What I liked

I got to use the knowledge that I already had about materials science engineering and processing

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more training in the fabrication lab over the summer, however, I am now getting that kind of training in the fall.

Advice

Be open to learning A LOT in a short amount of time and be prepared to remember what you learn. People in the engineering field expect you to learn fast, make mistakes, and learn from those mistakes.

Very supportive work environment. The other employees are very friendly and will help you however they can. It was a relaxed, but still professional environment.

What I wish was different

At times the structure was loose, but that just meant that you had more freedom and responsibility which was good for personal growth.

Advice

Take your own initiative for projects and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Know your stuff! Depending on department can be a large learning curve for a 3 month internship to get up to speed on technology used in products.

New Product Design Intern

What I liked

Along with the opportunity to sharpen technical skills, I also learned a great deal about the different paths I can take with my degree. Within the company I have had the opportunity to talk to design, applications, reliability, product marketing and many other types of engineers. Hearing about their experiences and goals greatly affects how I shape my own. The culture here is also very nice and professional. People are always willing to go out of their way to help/ teach you if you are lost or have questions. I was also lucky enough to have managers who are VERY accommodating to my school schedule and make it clear that school always comes first.

What I wish was different

I did find it relatively difficult to meet new people. There were a few intern events/ mixers but I really had to go out of my way to network.

Advice

Do your best to spend time with coworkers outside of the work environment. Ive gone to dinners, played basketball, joined the on site Toastmasters Club and it made all of the difference. Never be afraid to go to HR with any questions you may have. It will save you a lot of time in the long run. Be sure to join the stock program after you've been here for 3 months. It really pays off. Also if they ask you about your salary expectations, if you are an engineering undergrad, say $25. That's what you'll get regardless.

CMOS Test Engineering Intern

What I liked

I liked using my ability to teach myself very niche things such as interacting with a high powered refrigerator using Python code, analyzing billions of pixels using Python, or even learning about the IEEE standard test language known as STIL.

What I wish was different

I do wish my role here was slightly more defined. It seems that my hiring was contingent upon a customer of the company providing specific code files, and as of writing this, those files have yet to arrive.

Advice

Relax, this is not a high stakes job. I had ample time to write the programs that I did, and even were I not able to figure them out, my boss made it evident that he had no issue if I could not do it.
